Removal of Skin Lesions
You will have an initial consultation with your doctor to discuss your concern and the best way to manage it.
The procedures are explained and we ask you to sign a consent form. A number of procedures may be carried out using Cryopen and can be performed at the time of the consultation, other procedures may be carried out under a local anaesthetic and can be performed on the same day if previously arranged.
Lesions that are excised are routinely sent for histology (laboratory analysis).
Your questions answered
During your initial consultation the doctor will examine your skin lesion and advise on the best way to manage it. The procedure will be explained in detail including potential risks and complications.
The technique used will depend on factors such as the nature of lesion, its size and location, a local anaesthetic may need to be administered to minimise any discomfort.
Cryotherapy (Cryopen) can be performed at the time of the consultation.
Procedures requiring a local anaesthetic will need a separate booking or can be performed on the same day if previously arranged. Lesions that are excised are routinely sent for histology (laboratory analysis).
Multiple lesions may require subsequent surgical appointments.
With minor surgery the recovery time is usually short and you will be back to your usual activities immediately or fairly quickly. There may some discomfort when the anaesthetic wears out following an excision.
You will be offered a free follow-up appointment for suture removal, wound review, etc.
All surgical procedures carry a very low risk of infection, scarring and other possible wound healing problems. There is also a risk of recurrence depending on a lesion. All of these will be discussed with you during consultation.
